Terrarium was a duet danced in an inflatable bubble in rural outdoor locations on North York Moors and the Cornish coast. My costume designs were a response to the textures of the landscape and its seasonal changes – stags shedding velvet in Autumn, naked hatchlings in spring, the wildness of winter and the abundance of summer.
Profound transformations of the costumes took place without the dancers leaving the bubble – a ruched skirt became a parachute and floral suits appeared seemingly from nowhere.
The work was shortened and the costume designs adapted for urban outdoor festivals in Hull, Sheffield, London and Leeds.
