Part of the Royal Opera Company’s Faustian Pact – one set, two very different operas, both loosely based on Faust.
The Crackle set is a surreal cardboard world of fruit shoots and charity phone-ins with strange music machines operated by Methisopheles. My open-walled design, reminiscent of barcodes and matches, enabled the 2-D settings to slide on and off stage and the ROH children’s opera company to instantly appear.
